Look at the history of paper (fiat) currency. When inflation has added too many zeros to the denomination of the bills, new bills have been offered and a time period is offered for exchanging the new bills - say 10,000 unit bill for new 10 unit bills. The 10 now buys what the 10,000 bought. Why do they do it? For one thing it saves the banks and the citizens the trouble of exchanging huge bundles of bills.
There is another motivation for the central bank - especially in the case of Iraqi Dinar. They know that billions of old Dinar will not be exchanged for the new bills because it is outside the country, and impossibly isolated from exchange. They will offer an exchange period of time, after which the old bills will no longer be accepted. The bank wins, and all the greedy (and mal-informed) speculators will lose.
The speculation in Iraqi Dinar has reflected a naive ignorance of how money created from debt works in the first place. Its value is determined by supply and demand. The suppliers (the central banks) do not sit idly by and let speculators get rich when they have the ability to increase the supply at will, and reap the benefits.
If the average person understood that they would have never allowed the Federal Reserve to have a monopoly on the creation of the U.S. Dollar since 1913 - a franchise that has enabled them to bleed a few pennies of the dollars value each year until the 1913 dollar is now worth less than 4 cents.
This is a web site that derives its very existence from the dreams of people ignorant of the principles of fiat currency - money created from debt - and I doubt if the moderator will permit my words to be posted. If you are reading this, then my apologies, and kudos to the webmaster for offering opposing opinion to be posted.

The value of a currency does not change by lopping off zeros. No way to tell for sure what they will peg the iraqi dinar at, but such numbers have been thrown out there before and nothing ever happened. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see it happen, but I see so may predictions that seems realistic and never happened that I've given up on trying to guess and am just waiting.

Hey Alixes,

No way to tell for sure what they will peg the iraqi dinar at, but such numbers have been thrown out there before and nothing ever happened. Is this true? I have been looking online, but see nothing suggesting that this is true! Is it a rumor?

My father just called me to tell me that the dinar has pegged at around 85-90 cents to the dollar. Is this true? So according to you, the Central Bank of Iraq cbi.iq, which states on their website right now that they are selling dinar at 1170 and buying at 1168, doesn't know what they are doing? Listen man, I got a deal for you. I have 10 million dinar and I'll sell it to you for 12 dinars per $1 us dollar. You'll make double your money!
Think about that, double your money! Hey, you'll be laughing all the way to the bank... That is, until you walk in the door and tell them what you want :)
Even after you made your 2.5 million dollars, you were kind enough to jump on the internet and let us all know, wow, such a nice guy!

In fact, I just exchanged my 15,000,000 Iraqi Dinar at a rate of 6 dinar per $1 dollar and received 2.5 million dollars!

People, right now the exchange rate in iraq is 6 dinars per $1! They say it will go up to maybe even 6/1 to the U.S. dollar. i'm not saying that will happen, but if if it goes up to even a dime to the US dollar i am looking at 175,000 dollars!! There economy cant get any worse unless someone just completely wiped them off the earth.. They are sitting on the largest amount of crude oil in the world and gas is suppose to be 6-7 dollars just this year. All they lack is 3 cabinet members in there government and they are on there road to recovery after they have been recently forgiven of debt they owed and the US just gave them 48 billion dollars to help rebuild. When the dinar does go up all you haters will look back on this and cry... so if anyone is looking to invest ITS A SAFE GAMBLE JUST DONT BUY FAKES:)

okay, for all those people saying don’t buy iraqi dinar, don’t buy, don’t buy….shutupp every single person on this blog has gambled in there life no matter if its on a football game, lottery or just being right about something. okay. i recently invested roughly 2200 us dollars and it got me 1,750,000 dinar. They did this by collecting the currency after iraq stole the printing plates effectively making the kawati dinar worthless. Then they took the plates back from Sudam and reinstated the currency making all of the currency they held worth more than the cost of the war. This was under George bush sr' presidency, and I believe that he would have had the foresight to make money like that. Now George bush jr was quoted saying that the war on terror will not cost the American people a dollar. How? It's a continual cost to the American tax payer. What a stupid thing to say, right? Unless Georgie was following his fathers footsteps to reinstate a currency (of which America holds a lot of) and hence paying for the war costs.
This is my train of thought after researching. Please don't just take it as verbatim, look into it before you invest in IQD. However, you'd assume if enough foreign investors bought currency, logically the currency would have to rise to meet demand... So either it will be a slow rise for the iraqi economy, or a quick paced reinstatement, either way investing in Iraq is investing in oil, which is running out, so Iraq has to boom at some stage...

Everyone does remember that with the kawati dinar bring reinstated in the 90′s the US paid for all the costs of the gulf war… They did this by collecting the currency after iraq stole the printing plates effectively making the kawati dinar worthless.
